The Carnivals of the Canaries are really famous and spectacular. It is the party par excellence in Gran Canaria. Thousands of tourists come every year to this party that takes place in the middle of February where fancy dresses invade this wonderful island.
There are also many other celebrations that take place in the small towns of the island. The great majority of them are non religious celebrations such as la Fiesta del Caballo in Valsequillo or la Fiesta del Queso in Gáldar and Guía.
These celebrations have acquired a great importance increasing their popularity as more and more people come into contact with the traditions and satisfy their need of identity and their link to ones own region. As they are independent from the religious celebrations, they are not fixed days on the calendar, so we recommend you to call the town hall if you want to know when they will take place.
